Picardy is a located between Paris, Normandy and the Pas-de-Calais with a small area of coastline ("Côte Picarde" around the bay of the Somme).
It is famous for its history with Medieval Gothic cathedrals at Amiens, Beauvais, Laon, St Quentin, the famous chateau of Chantilly & the famous Somme battlefields.
Picardy is part of the Paris Basin and is relatively flat with lots of lakes along the main river valleys of the region (Somme, Aisne, Oise, Vesle & Thérain rivers) and in the flatlands near the Somme coast.
Notable lakes include: Lac de l'Ailette located in Aise (02) and Domaine d'Halatte, Etang de l'Herneuse, Etang de la Remise, Etang de la Corroye, Etang des Sautriauts & Etang de la Grévière in Oise. (60).
